Mycosis

Mycoses are infections caused by fungi that affect the skin, nails and hair. They affect regions in ideal conditions of heat and humidity, factors necessary for the development of fungi.

Types of Mycosis:

Onychomycosis

The name given to the condition that affects both toenails and fingernails. In this case, the nail detaches from the bed and becomes thicker. There may also be a change in color and format.

Pityriasis versicolor

This is a very common disease, popularly known as 'beach mycosis' or 'white cloth'. It has a chronic and recurrent nature and is more frequent among young individuals and people with oily skin. It is caused by fungi of the genus Malassezia.

Tineas

These are diseases caused by a group of fungi that live off the keratin in the skin, hair and nails. These fungi are classified according to the location/surface on which they are found:

  • Zoophilic (animals);
  • Geophilic (soil);
  • Anthropophiles (men).

Candidiasis

It is a candidal infection that can affect the skin, mucous membranes and nails alone or together.
