Rosacea

Rosacea is a vascular dysmotility, in which the vessel dilates and does not contract due to different stimuli, whether they are: physical activity, cold or spicy foods.

It is important to point out that, due to the sensitivity - caused by rosacea - of the skin, there are dermatological and aesthetic treatments/procedures that cannot be performed, such as peelings, physical or chemical, and the use of topical medication.

The exact cause of the occurrence of rosacea is still unknown, but it is known that it may be related to individual predisposition, evidencing a possible genetic basis.

In addition, psychological factors, such as stress, can influence the onset of the disease.

Another important aspect is that there are aggravating or triggering agents:

  • Alcoholic beverages;
  • Sun exposure;
  • Wind;
  • Cold;
  • Intake of hot food.

Rosacea can be treated and controlled, but this depends on the clinical stage the patient is in. Treatment may involve:

  • Suitable soaps;
  • Sunscreen suitable for the patient's skin and with correct protection against UVA and UVB;
  • Use of topical antimicrobials (metronidazole) and antiparasitics (ivermectin). Use of oral tetracycline derivatives (doxycycline and others);
  • Low dose oral isotretinoin;
  • Laser or pulsed light;
  • Radio frequency;
  • Dermabrasion;
  • Surgery.
